project skittles

do you recall this photo, from valentine’s day?

well, i decided i wanted a bit of a change up.  i had been enamoured of a certain silly style since seeing it done really well on a friend.  i’ve basically been wanting to do this thing for years, and should have done it long ago.

i finally got all the proper supplies together, and did everything in two sessions.

first, i had to correct the several months of root growth, of course.

Then, after a couple of days’ wait, i settled in for something i’d never done before, really: painting my hair, section by section.  i ended up looking pretty amusing:

you can see i managed to get much of it on my face.  and it’s strong stuff; my face still has pink patches about it.  sorry about the bad lighting…my studio is dark at the best of times, and these photos were taken at night.

and, here’s a picdump of the final results:

as you can see, project skittles was quite a success.

i think though, that if i ever try this again, the red will go in the back rather than the front, and i will pick up a much deeper blue (because honestly, it ended up looking like another shade of green).  and, it took *forever* to do on my own.  i’m worried that the back probably has rough patches of blonde just hanging out. nothing a good hair clip can’t hide!

oh, and how to complete a project like this?

oh yes, we do nothing half-assed in this house.

so, very recently, i’ve begun helping out with a friend’s new endeavour.  and it’s super yummy.  and, today, he’s decided to do a thing for charity.  it’s a truly geeky tribute to leonard nimoy, one of the most well known actors in the universe, who passed away recently and left many hearts heavy.

according to the website, these sweet pieces of nerdery are $3 each, with all proceeds going to the seattle branch of the american lung association, one of mr nimoy’s own favoured charities.

please be aware that these marshmallows are *caffeinated* and are orange in flavour, and that there is a flat rate shipping charge, no matter how many you order!

and he’s also doing a giveaway!

Head to this link (the royal ravens facebook page!) to learn how to participate for a chance to win one of the amazing spock-mallows or one of the many other flavours offered!  ten mallows are being given out in total, so i think your chances are good. 🙂

Giant Vinyl Marshmallows

on friday night, my husband rented a movie.  it’s a movie about pain, and finding inspiration in a giant vinyl marshmallow.

and microbots.

in our house, everyone loves animation.  sir went to school for animation and design.  i’m just a (very big) fan.  and mr jones is pretty into it too, since it kind of runs a lot of the things he likes.

we got a 72 hour rental of big hero 6, just because.  and now we’re on watch-through number 2, because we can.

i like old-style animation.  the stuff that was painstakingly animated by hand, with hundreds and hundreds of drawings.  of course, big hero 6 is not old school in the least.

it’s still full of a lot of impressive ingenuity  there’s a medical robot who is meant to be procedural and dry, who is amazingly witty and human, floating ‘fish pop’ balloons, and well, i shouldn’t give you all the details.

you should go watch it.

or, find the original comics and read up, but keep in mind that the comic and movie vary quite a bit.
